Jan 24 – Feb 13: Hosted several information sessions within Bridgewater Chinese American WeChat group on the current status of COVID-19 in China and encouraged Bridgewater residents and visitors from China to self-quarantine for 14 days and exercise caution and consider your health in assessing COVID-19 risks.
March 11: BCAA wrote a proposal to all BOE members and Superintendent suggesting three different approaches to prevent the community spread of COVID-19 in all schools, prior to Governor Murphy ordered all NJ school to close.
March 12: BCAA formed a special task force, Fight with COVID-19 and Help Neighbors, with over 100 volunteers.
March 13: Established BCAA In Action Committee with 7 key leaders with objectives to to proactively communicate with the township leadership and offer community-based measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Bridgewater, communicate with all neighbors via social media, emails, phone calls, and newspapers to promote advocate proactive measures to protect family and the community, and help neighbors who have suffered hardship due to COVID-19.
March 17: BCAA In Action initiated a fundraising to purchase much needed medical supplies for nearby hospitals around Bridgewater-Raritan area. Also formed 5 subcommittees: Fundraising, Hospital Communication, Supply Purchase, Help Neighbors, and Public Relation & Media.
March 20: Within 3 days, the monetary donation from Bridgewater Chinese American residents reached to $8800.
March 22: Established BCAA website (https://njbcaa.org) with the objective to help Bridgewater residents to raise awareness of the danger of COVID-19.
March 25: BCAA donated $500 to the Whalen Family in Bridgewater.
March 25: Placed order for KN95 and surgical masks from China.
March 26: Donated PPEs to the ER department at RWJ Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
March 27: First shipments of KN95 and surgical masks were sent out from China via DHL to NJ.
March 27: Monetary donation amount reached to $20,000 and many BCAA members Donated not only Medical Supplies Fund but to Help Bridgewater Neighbors Fund as well. Many members donated precious medical supplies saved from their limited household to help the Bridgewater community.
March 27: BCAA In Action sent a proposal to the Bridgewater Township to suggest that supermarket, gas station and other frontline service employees should wear masks to protect themselves. Also advocate customers to wear masks to slow down the community spread.
